Grass Valley Stringband was formed in 2023
when Karen Greenhaw contacted Dave Earl after a local jam session. Their focus is on pre-bluegrass stringband music, combining a high energy mix of Appalachian Fiddle tunes,
old-school brother duet harmonies, Rags, Celtic, Western swing, a bit o' Jazz and a taste of the Blues.
Roke Whitson's Round Peak Clawhammer banjo style gives GVSB it's distinctive Old-Time Sound. He's played with numerous bands including Fire in the Kitchen.
Karen grew up on the east coast playing classical music in local orchestras,  but fell in love with bluegrass, Celtic and old time music as a teenager.
She's raised a large family on a ranch in Grass Valley and works as a nurse practitioner. She loves horses and is a visual artist. She has numerous recording credits and has played with Blackthorn Celtic band, Highway 49, Faultline, Natural Drift and the Banner Mountain Boys
She enjoys singing and playing music of all kinds.
